What is Bitcoin (BTC)?
Bitcoin is the first decentralized cryptocurrency. It was described in a 2008 white paper by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, and the network went live in January 2009. Bitcoin runs on a public blockchain kept by thousands of independent computers, so no bank, company or government controls it.
New bitcoin is created through mining, a proof-of-work process in which miners compete to add a block to the chain about every 10 minutes. The reward for each block halves every 210,000 blocks, roughly every four years, and the total supply is capped at 21 million BTC. That fixed supply is one reason Bitcoin is often called digital gold. Each bitcoin can be divided into 100 million units called satoshis.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Bitcoin against USDT?
BTC/USDT is one of the most actively traded pairs in crypto. Quoting Bitcoin in USDT gives you a price in dollar terms. It also lets you switch between BTC and a stablecoin designed to track the US dollar in one step, for example to keep part of a holding in a dollar-linked balance without leaving the crypto market. The Bitcoin network runs around the clock, including weekends and public holidays when banks are closed.
