How to buy and sell ATOM with USDT on OTCN
Easy trade converts one asset into another at the rate shown in the trade card above. To buy Cosmos, select Buy, enter the amount of USDT you want to spend and check how much ATOM you will receive. To sell, switch to Sell and enter the amount of ATOM you want to convert back to USDT.
The rate moves with the market, so always review the amount you will receive before you confirm. If you want to set your own price with limit orders, use the ATOM/USDT spot market instead. Fees for every product are listed on the Fees page.
What is Cosmos (ATOM)?
The Cosmos Hub was the first blockchain in Cosmos, a network built so that separate blockchains can link up and pass tokens and data between them. ATOM is the Hub's native token. The network was set out in a 2016 white paper by Jae Kwon and Ethan Buchman. The Interchain Foundation, based in Switzerland, raised development funds in an April 2017 token sale, and the Hub's mainnet went live in March 2019.
Security on the Hub comes from proof of stake, run on CometBFT, the consensus engine previously called Tendermint. Validators produce new blocks, and holders can bond ATOM to a validator to share in its staking rewards. Bonded ATOM takes 21 days to release. The token also covers transaction fees and gives stakers a vote on governance proposals. Supply has no hard cap. Each block mints new ATOM, most of it going to stakers, and the inflation rate shifts with the proportion of ATOM staked, inside bounds that governance sets.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Cosmos against USDT?
ATOM is the token the Cosmos Hub runs on: holders stake it to help secure the chain, spend it on fees and use it to vote. Issuance rules and software upgrades are settled through on-chain proposals, and those votes come up often in ATOM news. The ATOM/USDT pair expresses the token's value in USDT. Through it, a holder can turn ATOM into a USDT balance, or turn USDT back into ATOM, on any day of the week.
