What is Avalanche (AVAX)?
AVAX powers Avalanche, a layer-1 platform for smart contracts and custom blockchain networks. Ava Labs built the platform under co-founder and CEO Emin Gün Sirer, who was a computer science professor at Cornell University. Avalanche's mainnet began operating in September 2020. Its Primary Network combines three built-in chains: the X-Chain for creating and exchanging assets, the P-Chain for coordinating validators and the EVM-compatible C-Chain for smart contracts.
Under proof of stake, validators lock up AVAX to help secure the network and are paid newly minted AVAX as rewards. Fees for Primary Network transactions are settled in AVAX and then burned, taking those tokens out of supply for good. AVAX also serves as a basic unit of account between Avalanche L1s, the independent blockchains built on the platform. Supply has a hard cap of 720 million AVAX. Half was created at genesis and staking rewards release the rest over time, so total supply almost always rises while staying well short of the cap.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Avalanche against USDT?
Quoting AVAX against USDT expresses the value of Avalanche's native token as a US dollar figure. Beyond market exposure, AVAX has practical jobs on its own network, where it covers transaction fees and is locked up by validators for staking. Converting part of a position into USDT, a stablecoin that aims to mirror the dollar, moves funds out of AVAX without leaving the crypto market. The pair does not follow market hours, so it stays available at night, on weekends and on holidays.
