What is Gram (GRAM)?
Gram is the native coin of The Open Network (TON), a layer-1 blockchain linked to Telegram. Telegram unveiled the project in 2018 and planned to issue a coin called Gram, but withdrew in 2020 after a legal fight with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Independent developers carried on the open-source project, and its coin traded as Toncoin (TON) until June 2026. After a community vote, it was renamed Gram (GRAM). Balances and addresses did not change.
TON uses proof of stake: validators lock up Gram to produce blocks and earn rewards. Since an April 2026 upgrade, a new block arrives roughly every 0.4 seconds. Gram pays transaction and storage fees, is staked to secure the chain and is used in network votes. In Telegram, it can also buy Stars and Premium subscriptions. The supply started at 5 billion coins and has no maximum. New coins are issued to validators, while half of transaction fees have been burned since June 2023.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Gram against USDT?
GRAM/USDT gives the native coin of the TON blockchain a price in dollar terms and lets you move between Gram and a stable balance in one step. People who need Gram for network fees or Telegram purchases such as Stars can convert the amount they need and switch back to USDT afterward. The pair covers the same coin that traded as Toncoin (TON) before June 2026, and the market runs around the clock, including weekends.
