What is ApeCoin (APE)?
ApeCoin (APE) is linked to Bored Ape Yacht Club, an NFT collection, and the broader ecosystem around it. The ApeCoin DAO issued the token, and the APE Foundation was formed to carry out the DAO's decisions. APE launched in March 2022, built to the ERC-20 standard on Ethereum. Yuga Labs, creator of Bored Ape Yacht Club, was not the issuer but received part of the starting supply.
On ApeChain, an Arbitrum-based network that went live in October 2024, APE is the native gas token, so fees there are settled in it. It was introduced as a common currency for Bored Ape games and products, and bridges carry it to other networks. APE has a hard limit of 1 billion tokens, all minted at the deployment of the Ethereum contract, whose code has no function for creating more. That billion was divided among an ecosystem fund, Yuga Labs, the Bored Ape founders, launch contributors, and holders of Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFTs.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade ApeCoin against USDT?
Paying for transactions on ApeChain requires APE, and the token was introduced as a currency for Bored Ape games and products. The APE/USDT pair gives people active in that ecosystem a way to top up or trim their APE. The pair's other side is USDT, a stablecoin that aims to hold a value of one US dollar, so the quote shows what ApeCoin is worth in dollars. Crypto markets have no closing bell, and a conversion can happen late at night or on a Sunday.
