What is ether.fi (ETHFI)?
Started in 2023 as a non-custodial protocol for staking ether, ether.fi later became known for liquid restaking. The project now presents itself as a crypto neobank, with a payment card, savings and borrowing offered next to its staking products. ETHFI, the token used to govern the protocol, arrived in March 2024 as an ERC-20 asset on Ethereum, the same month the first community airdrop opened for claims.
ETHFI holders vote on decisions about the protocol, with voting held on Snapshot. Proposals can cover upgrades, fee parameters, which node operators are approved and how the treasury is diversified. Governance has also approved programs that direct a share of protocol revenue toward open-market purchases of ETHFI. All 1 billion tokens were minted at the outset, and the contract contains no function for issuing more. That fixed supply was divided among user airdrops, the treasury, core contributors, investors and partners.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade ether.fi against USDT?
Swapping ETHFI for USDT, a stablecoin that aims to hold a one-dollar value, turns exposure to a single protocol's token into a dollar-denominated balance. Several factors can shift ETHFI's price, among them ether.fi governance results, buyback programs that draw on protocol revenue and conditions across Ethereum staking and restaking. A USDT quote expresses each of those moves as a dollar figure, and the same pair works in reverse for anyone who wants to return to ETHFI.
