What is Lido DAO (LDO)?
Lido DAO (LDO) is the token that governs Lido, a liquid staking protocol focused on Ethereum. Through Lido, users can stake ether in any amount. In return they receive stETH, a transferable token whose balance tracks the staked ETH plus the rewards it earns. Lido went live on Ethereum in December 2020. The Lido DAO and its LDO token were created that same month.
Ownership of LDO translates directly into voting power: the more tokens an address holds, the more weight its vote carries. The DAO runs on Aragon, and its decisions cover protocol fees, which node operators and oracles Lido uses, other protocol settings and the treasury. A dual governance system acts as a check on those votes, since stETH holders can delay DAO decisions they oppose. LDO follows the ERC-20 standard on Ethereum. At the DAO's launch, 1 billion LDO were minted and divided among the treasury, investors, early developers, founders and validators.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Lido DAO against USDT?
Holding LDO is what gives a wallet a say in Lido DAO votes on fees, node operators and other protocol settings. The LDO/USDT pair prices that voting token in USDT, a stablecoin that aims to hold a value of one US dollar, so the size of a governance holding can be read in dollar figures. Someone who wants LDO to take part in DAO decisions can convert USDT into it, and someone who prefers to hold a dollar-denominated balance can convert back to USDT.
