What is Chainlink (LINK)?
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network that feeds smart contracts with data from outside their chain, such as market prices, and links them to other blockchains. Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis designed it and laid out the plan in a September 2017 white paper written with Ari Juels. LINK was distributed through a token sale that same month, and the oracle network began operating on Ethereum in May 2019. Chainlink Labs, which started in 2014 as SmartContract, leads development.
Independent node operators source and check outside data, post it on chain and are paid in LINK. Staking adds a second use: holders lock LINK to back oracle services, and a node operator can lose part of its stake if a service it secures fails to perform. Since August 2025, a share of Chainlink's service revenue has been converted into LINK and kept in the Chainlink Reserve. The token uses the ERC-677 standard on Ethereum, compatible with ERC-20, and its total supply is fixed at 1 billion LINK.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Chainlink against USDT?
Inside the Chainlink oracle network, LINK is the token used to pay node operators. Pairing it with USDT, a stablecoin that aims to hold a value of one US dollar, means the LINK/USDT rate reads close to a dollar price for the token. A LINK holder can park part of a position in USDT to sit out price swings without leaving crypto, then convert back later at the displayed rate. The market stays open seven days a week.
