What is BitTorrent (BTT)?
BitTorrent (BTT) is the token of the BitTorrent ecosystem, which grew out of the peer-to-peer file-sharing protocol that Bram Cohen first released in 2001. TRON acquired BitTorrent in 2018, and BTT launched on the TRON blockchain in January 2019 with a public token sale. The original TRC-10 token, now listed as BTTOLD, was later replaced by today's BTT, a TRC-20 token, at a ratio of 1,000 new tokens for each old one.
BTT is the native token of BitTorrent Chain (BTTC), a proof-of-stake network that runs Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and connects to TRON, Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. Transaction fees on BTTC are paid in BTT, validators stake BTT to help secure the network, and other holders can delegate their tokens to validators. BTT has also been used in BitTorrent Speed, where downloaders can offer tokens to peers for faster transfers. After the redenomination, the total supply was set at 990 trillion BTT.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade BitTorrent against USDT?
BTT/USDT shows the value of BitTorrent's token in dollar terms and lets you switch between BTT and a dollar stablecoin in one step. Because the total supply runs into the trillions, a USDT quote makes the dollar value of a BTT holding easier to read. Users who need BTT for BitTorrent Chain fees, or who want to move into a stable balance, can convert in either direction at the displayed rate, around the clock.
