What is Worldcoin (WLD)?
World is a project built around World ID, a privacy-focused digital identity, and WLD, called Worldcoin, is its token. Its founders, Sam Altman, Alex Blania and Max Novendstern, also started Tools for Humanity, and oversight now rests with the World Foundation. WLD first appeared in July 2023 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. World Chain, a layer-2 network based on the OP Stack, has been the token's primary venue since October 2024.
Verification happens at an Orb, a device developed by Tools for Humanity that uses iris imaging to check that each person is unique. People verified this way, or through a passport credential, can claim WLD gradually where permitted. Three quarters of the initial supply is reserved for the World community. Over time, WLD is meant to give users a voice in governance and to pay network fees such as World ID fees. The supply is fixed at 10 billion WLD until July 2038. After that, governance may allow annual inflation of no more than 1.5%.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Worldcoin against USDT?
Eligible World ID holders who claim WLD can use the WLD/USDT pair to see its value in US dollars or to convert between WLD and a stablecoin. World plans to use the token for governance and network fees, and locked tokens are released on a schedule, so WLD's price can respond to project announcements, regulatory developments and those unlock dates. Converting through USDT works at any hour of any day.
