What is Bonk (BONK)?
Bonk (BONK) is a dog-themed meme coin native to the Solana network. An anonymous group of Solana developers created it, and the project says it has no single leader. BONK first reached users in December 2022 through a free airdrop to Solana's community. NFT collectors, artists and developers were among the earliest recipients.
Technically, BONK is an SPL token, which is Solana's standard token format. It has no role in securing the Solana network. Instead, it circulates as a community token in Solana apps, and projects in its ecosystem include the BonkSwap exchange and the BONKbot trading bot. BonkDAO, which was given part of the original allocation, lets holders vote on proposals. The starting supply was 100 trillion BONK. Part of that amount has since been burned and permanently removed. Each token can be split into units as small as 0.00001 BONK.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Bonk against USDT?
BONK's price depends heavily on sentiment within its community, and the quote can be volatile. The BONK/USDT pair measures the token against USDT, which aims to hold a value of about one US dollar. Someone who wants more BONK can top up from USDT, and someone holding more BONK than they want can convert part of it back at the displayed rate. Crypto markets do not follow banking hours.
