What is Pudgy Penguins (PENGU)?
Pudgy Penguins started in July 2021 as a collection of penguin-themed NFTs on Ethereum, and PENGU is the brand's official token. The token launched on Solana in December 2024. A substantial portion of the supply was distributed by airdrop to Pudgy Penguins NFT holders and to members of other crypto communities. The token's EU white paper lists Simple Action Limited, a company incorporated in the British Virgin Islands, as the issuer.
According to that white paper, PENGU serves as a cultural symbol for The Huddle, the brand's fan community, rather than a financial instrument, and holding it confers no ownership rights, dividends or corporate voting power. Some partner reward programs use the token, and it can be spent with businesses that accept it. Rather than operating a chain of its own, PENGU exists as an SPL token on Solana, with further deployments on networks such as Ethereum and BNB Chain. Its maximum supply is 88,888,888,888 PENGU.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Pudgy Penguins against USDT?
Much of PENGU's price reflects how much attention the Pudgy Penguins brand and its fan community attract at a given time, and the rate can shift quickly and by wide margins. Pairing the token with USDT, a stablecoin that aims to mirror the US dollar, expresses those shifts as dollar-linked figures. The pair allows a direct swap from PENGU to USDT, or the reverse, without going through SOL or ETH first, and the market stays open at any hour, seven days a week.
