What is Shiba Inu (SHIB)?
Named after the Shiba Inu dog breed, SHIB is a meme token created by a pseudonymous developer known as Ryoshi and launched on Ethereum in August 2020. It follows the ERC-20 standard and was released without a private sale or venture funding. Ryoshi later stepped away, and a community team of volunteers and lead developers now handles development.
The entire supply of one quadrillion SHIB was minted when the contract went live. Half was placed in a Uniswap liquidity pool, and the other half went to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, who burned more than 410 trillion tokens in May 2021. Burning moves tokens to addresses that nobody can access, which has cut the circulating supply over time. SHIB circulates in its own ecosystem, which includes the ShibaSwap decentralized exchange and Shibarium, an Ethereum layer-2 network that opened in August 2023 and charges fees in the BONE token. Outside that ecosystem the token offers little built-in utility, and community interest is the main force behind its price.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Shiba Inu against USDT?
SHIB can swing sharply when community sentiment or social media attention changes. Some traders hold USDT, a stablecoin that aims to stay close to one US dollar, and use it as the base for opening and closing SHIB positions without cashing out to fiat. Scale is another factor. SHIB's supply runs into the hundreds of trillions, so holdings tend to be large in token terms, and a SHIB/USDT quote turns them into a dollar figure. The market has no closing hours, weekends included.
