What is 1inch (1INCH)?
The 1inch project started out as a decentralized exchange aggregator, a service that draws on liquidity from many exchanges when routing a token swap. Its first version came out of an ETHGlobal hackathon in New York in 2019, where Sergej Kunz and Anton Bukov built it. 1INCH, the project's native token, arrived on Ethereum in December 2020 under the ERC-20 standard. A share of the starting supply went to wallets with past 1inch activity, and the token can also be held on BNB Smart Chain.
Within the 1inch DAO, 1INCH is the voting asset. Holders who stake it pick a lock period and receive Unicorn Power. Longer locks earn more Unicorn Power, and the amount shrinks as time passes. That weight is used to vote on DAO proposals and can be delegated to resolvers, approved parties that stake 1INCH themselves and fill swap orders in 1inch Fusion mode. Supply at launch totaled 1.5 billion 1INCH, with the community incentive and development fund allocations set to unlock over four years.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade 1inch against USDT?
Voting in the 1inch DAO works through staked 1INCH, so some users acquire the token to stake it and take part in those votes. Others add to or reduce their holdings as protocol updates and broader DeFi news come out. Pricing 1INCH against USDT, a stablecoin that aims to hold a value of one US dollar, shows each move as a dollar figure, and keeping the other side in USDT means proceeds do not sit in another volatile token.
