What is Aster (ASTER)?
ASTER belongs to Aster, a decentralized venue for perpetual futures and spot trading. Two earlier projects combined to form it: Astherus, a multi-asset liquidity platform, and APX Finance, a perpetual trading protocol. The combined project took the Aster name in March 2025 and is backed by YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs. ASTER arrived in September 2025 as a BEP-20 token on BNB Chain, replacing the older APX token, which holders could swap for it.
Aster Chain, the project's own layer-1 network, reached mainnet in March 2026. ASTER holders can stake with its validators for rewards, and validators vote on new market listings, each vote weighted by the ASTER staked. Platform fees pay for ASTER buybacks that are distributed to stakers, and each buyback is paired with a burn of the same amount from reserves. Supply is limited to a maximum of 8 billion ASTER, and over half is earmarked for community airdrops. From early 2026, the ecosystem allocation has been released solely as staking rewards.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Aster against USDT?
ASTER is bound up with the activity of a single exchange, Aster, from its staking program to its fee-funded buybacks. Pricing ASTER against USDT, a stablecoin that aims to track the US dollar, turns a holding or a batch of staking rewards into a clear dollar figure. Moving into USDT shifts that value to a dollar-referenced balance, and moving back restores exposure to ASTER. The pair trades every day of the year, with no closing bell.
