What is Aave (AAVE)?
Aave is a decentralized lending protocol, and AAVE is its governance token. Users supply crypto assets to shared pools, and borrowers draw from them by posting collateral. Stani Kulechov founded the project as ETHLend in 2017, and it was renamed Aave in September 2018. The lending protocol launched on Ethereum in January 2020. AAVE arrived in October 2020 as the successor to LEND, with 100 LEND converting into 1 AAVE.
Aave runs as smart contracts on Ethereum and several other networks. Borrowing costs shift with supply and demand for each asset, and a loan whose collateral falls under the required level can be liquidated. Through the Aave DAO, AAVE holders propose and vote on protocol changes, including risk settings, the list of supported assets and treasury spending, and they can stake the token within the protocol. The ERC-20 token has a total supply of 16 million: 13 million set aside for LEND holders and 3 million for an ecosystem reserve.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Aave against USDT?
Because AAVE carries voting power over the Aave lending protocol, its market price can react to protocol upgrades, governance outcomes and shifts in decentralized finance activity. Converting AAVE into USDT, a stablecoin that aims to track the US dollar, moves value out of a governance token and into a dollar-referenced balance, and converting back reverses that. A USDT quote also makes the token's value easy to read in dollars. Crypto markets have no closing time, so this rate keeps moving outside banking hours.
