What is Pump.fun (PUMP)?
Pump.fun, the platform whose native token is PUMP, lets anyone launch and trade a meme coin on Solana without writing code. Alon Cohen, Dylan Kerler and Noah Tweedale co-founded the service, which opened to users in January 2024. PUMP itself came later, through a public sale held in July 2025, and the token started trading two days afterward.
Each coin created on Pump.fun begins trading on a bonding curve. After reaching a set market value, it moves to PumpSwap, an exchange run by the platform itself. None of these steps requires PUMP, and the project says the token does not give holders any right to revenue. Pump.fun started spending platform revenue on PUMP buybacks in July 2025. In April 2026, it burned the repurchased tokens and committed half of its net revenue, for one year, to a locked buyback-and-burn program. PUMP's supply has a ceiling of 1 trillion tokens, and each burned token leaves the supply permanently.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Pump.fun against USDT?
PUMP is closely linked to what happens on Pump.fun, and updates on platform revenue or token burns can move its price. The PUMP/USDT pair prices the token against a dollar stablecoin. Holders can switch into USDT when they want to cut their exposure, and switch back into PUMP when they want to add to it. Crypto trading has no closing bell, so PUMP/USDT is quoted overnight, on weekends and on holidays.
