What is Uniswap (UNI)?
Uniswap is a decentralized exchange protocol that started on Ethereum, and UNI is the token that governs it. Rather than using an order book, Uniswap lets people trade from their own wallets against automated liquidity pools. Hayden Adams launched the protocol in November 2018, and Uniswap Labs develops it. The ERC-20 token arrived in September 2020, and some of its supply went to earlier users and liquidity providers through an airdrop.
Decisions are made by onchain vote. Holders vote directly or delegate, and approved proposals can set protocol fee parameters, direct community treasury funds and authorize upgrades. A holder has no individual right to protocol revenue. All 1 billion UNI was minted at genesis and unlocked over a four-year vesting period that is now complete. Governance can mint up to 2% of supply each year but has not done so. Since December 2025, protocol fees have been used to burn UNI permanently, and a separate one-time burn took 100 million UNI out of the treasury.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Uniswap against USDT?
Some holders of Uniswap's governance token add to or trim their position when a vote or a change to protocol fees and burns is on the agenda. Pairing UNI with USDT, a stablecoin that aims to follow the US dollar, gives that decision a simple reference point: the token is quoted as a dollar figure, and any amount taken out of it can rest in a dollar-linked balance. Easy trade converts at the displayed rate. Crypto markets stay open, so UNI is priced on weekends too.
