What is Curve DAO Token (CRV)?
Curve DAO Token (CRV) is the governance token of Curve Finance, a decentralized exchange specialized in trading assets of similar value, for example two stablecoins or a token and its wrapped version. Michael Egorov created Curve. CRV went live in August 2020, alongside the Curve DAO that oversees the protocol. The token follows the ERC-20 standard on Ethereum, with versions also available on several other networks.
To take part in governance, holders lock CRV for a period of up to four years and receive veCRV in return. This vote-locked balance decays over time until the unlock date. It carries voting power in the DAO, including gauge votes that set how new CRV emissions are divided among liquidity pools. It can also raise a liquidity provider's CRV rewards by as much as 2.5 times and lets holders claim part of the protocol's fees. Fresh CRV goes to liquidity providers under a schedule whose emission rate falls by about 15.9% every year, bringing total supply toward roughly 3.03 billion CRV.
What is Tether (USDT)?
Tether (USDT) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of 1 US dollar. It launched in 2014 and is issued on several blockchains, including Ethereum and Tron. Because its price is meant to stay close to 1 USD, traders use USDT to price other crypto assets and to keep a dollar-denominated balance without leaving the crypto market.
Why trade Curve DAO Token against USDT?
Curve distributes CRV to its liquidity providers as rewards, and the CRV/USDT pair gives them a direct way to swap those tokens for USDT. It also works in reverse, for anyone who wants to acquire CRV with USDT. Quoting CRV in a stablecoin that aims to hold a one-dollar value makes its price moves easier to follow. Those moves can stem from Curve Finance itself, through adjustments to liquidity incentives, gauge votes or DAO governance decisions, and from conditions in the broader crypto market.
